Welcome to the 9th and 9th Street Festival’s Offical Website!
Held at the intersection of 900 South and 900 East in Salt Lake City, the 9th and 9th Street Festival has become annual event where everyone from the city converges to enjoy food, fun and music.
This years event will be held all day on September 19th, 2009 and promises to be better than ever with an amazing line-up of performers and an eclectic mix of local artists, purveyors of fine foods and delights for both children and adults!
Sponsored by the East Liberty Community Council, the 9th and 9th Street Festival was conceived as a way to bring neighbors together in what has quickly become one of the city’s most unique, eclectic and desirable neighborhoods. This is a celebration of a neighborhood put on by neighbors. Its free, its fun, bring the dog, the kids, the stroller and come on down to join the fun. We invite musicians, dancers, artists and crafters to make the day.

2009 is shaping up to be an amazing Festival!
Festival planning is in full gear and I’ve spent much of the morning working to get things in place. The star of our festival will be our 99 red balloon event! See below! I’m very excited.
We’ve had so many great improvements this year it’s hard to know where to start. Adding Dan Hamilton and Andrew Stone to our group is making a big difference and they are much appreciated. This new website for example is Andrew’s work. Dan and Andrew are working hard at ensuring our best interaction yet with local businesses. I’m excited to see more of them get involved. Eric and Fritz have once again been phenomenal and I’m happy to have them back this year. We are once again the finish line for the Utah AIDS walk for life after a year’s hiatus. We’re also bringing in the Salt Lake City recycling program to manage our waste cans this year. Want to learn more about what to put in the green can vs the blue can? You can find out with us when you want to throw your festival trash away. Golds Cross Ambulance has also once again offered their services as our First Aid station. They have supported us for many years and they deserve a shout out for their continued and unheralded contribution. Thank you guys.
So what else? We’ll have a FIRE TRUCK! I love our neighborhood fire station. Come honk the horn and watch the ladder reach to the sky.
We’re putting together the best arts and crafts booths yet! I have more applications than ever ahead of the deadline. We may be full by the deadline this year and that will make our work so much easier.
And have you noticed? Our music line up is already set! It’s going to be a great year at the 9th & 9th Street Festival.
But help! There’s more! We need more volunteers! Please sign up. We’ll feed you, dress you (t-shirts), and give you a great way to contribute to our neighborhood.
See you there! – Heidi
The Nine Muses
While enjoying the 9th and 9th Street Festival at the Corner of 900 E. and 900 S. you are sure to notice a beautiful array of kinetic art. Call “The Nine Muses” it was installed in 2007. These works were the work of Seattle Artist, Troy Pillow. They are wonderful and constantly in motion.
Gross National Product – Self Described “Weird Music”
Gross National Product, comprised of four/five excellent Utah musicians, has been performing around Salt Lake City for 25 years now. The band has gone through many members, and todays group consists of three of the original musicians. Once upon a time, while playing at Juniors Tavern in 1983, we were asked to play ’Satin Doll’. We grudgingly complied, but Ralph the guitarist was angry. He turned his amp to eleven, and screamed through the tune. We all followed suit. Thus was born GNP. We play our original tunes without abandon, bordering often on avant garde, yet tight melodies and segues keep the band sounding tight and interesting. We are loud, then soft, moody, then rockin’, melodic, then outside. And we always play the songs differently. Improvisation is very important to us. Highway 6 – On the Festival Stage at 2:30!
Heidi and Tom (Dad) first recorded when Heidi was just 2 years old….along with sister Disa Nedreberg, the result has grown to a musical collaboration known as “Love Songs to the Desert”, an album scheduled to be released in 2009. Inspired by the landscapes of the West, and evoking the simplicity of the desert, original songs by Heidi and Tom explore life, love, longing, and loss. Joined by Tom’s long-time In Stereo bandmates Matt Rushton, Kyle Johnson, and Ted Townsend, Highway 6 is a fresh sound and a unique band chemistry – which equals moving music and a kick ass performance.
